About Matt

From Athlete to Coach

Sport has shaped who I am for as long as I can remember.

Growing up I played football, swam competitively and competed in judo before discovering hockey as a teenager.

That passion took me to Premier League hockey before moving to France, where I spent several years playing and coaching professionally at Racing Club de France.

Those experiences taught me discipline, teamwork, resilience and the value of continual improvement—lessons that continue to shape the way I coach today.

Looking back, I realise that journey through sport wasn't just preparing me to become a better athlete.

It was preparing me to become a better coach.

Personal Training Became the Next Challenge

After studying Sports Science and qualifying as a personal trainer, I discovered a different kind of challenge.

Helping people discover they're capable of more than they thought.

Over the past 20 years I've coached people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

Their goals have varied, but one thing has remained remarkably consistent.

The people who make lasting progress aren't the ones chasing quick fixes.

They're the ones who build strong foundations, trust the process and keep showing up.

That realisation became the foundation of Move Eat Perform.

A Simpler Philosophy

The longer I've coached, the simpler my philosophy has become.

People don't need endless complexity.

They don't need the latest trend or the perfect programme.

They need sensible coaching.

Consistent habits.

A body that's capable of supporting the life they want to live.

That's why everything I do is built around one simple belief.

  • Build health first.

  • Develop fitness.

  • Then use that fitness to enjoy whatever matters most to you.

I'm Still Learning

One thing that's never changed is my curiosity.

I still enjoy learning.

I still enjoy training.

And I still enjoy testing ideas on myself before I ask clients to trust them.

Whether I'm increasing my golf clubhead speed, preparing for a return to Masters hockey or simply becoming stronger and more capable as I get older, I'm continually exploring how training, movement and lifestyle can help people perform at their best.

I believe the best coaches never stop learning—and never stop challenging themselves.

Beyond the Gym

When I'm not coaching, you'll usually find me spending time with my family, walking our Labrador Flo, playing golf or working on my own training.

I enjoy learning new skills, taking on new challenges and staying active in different ways because I believe movement should be something we enjoy throughout life—not just something we do in the gym.

The principles I teach my clients aren't something I switch on when I walk into work.

They're simply part of how I choose to live my life.

The One Thing I Hope You Remember

If there's one thing I hope every client takes away from working with me, it's this.

Build a body that lets you enjoy life.

The goal isn't the gym.

It's everything the gym allows you to do.

Physical capability gives you the freedom to say "yes" to more of life.

Move Eat Perform isn't just the name of my business.

It's the philosophy that shapes how I coach—and how I choose to live my own life.
